Nobody is appointed tagger — anyone may become one. You pick out a victim, catch somebody's eye, and the two of you sneak up and hug the victim from either side like the bread of a sandwich. The caught player sits or lies down and counts silently to ten before rejoining.
Hold with care
- Being approached from behind by two people and hugged from both sides — this requires the group's explicit agreement first, and the sheet's own instruction is that the sandwich bread must be gentle
- The catch is deliberately unannounced, so the person cannot decline in the moment
- Not appropriate where being enclosed or approached unseen is difficult for someone
