The King

One person stands in the middle as the king and begins to move; everyone else supports whatever they do. Lift a leg and someone is immediately underneath the foot. The king climbs, turns, falls, and the group carries each movement. Movements must be slow enough that the helpers can read the intention in time. Everyone takes a turn.

Hold with care
  • A person's weight is taken by the group, including in falls and climbs; a lapse injures someone
  • The instruction to move slowly is the safety rule, not a stylistic note — the source says the helpers must have time to see the intention
  • Body size and strength differences decide who can safely be king and who can catch; the source does not raise it and 'everyone should be king once' should not override it
  • Being physically supported by a group, and being the one holding, are both intimate — this belongs in a group that already has trust
