Mill, stop, close your eyes; on opening, one partner silently sees while the other is seen, then swap, then both at once, closing the eyes in between to return to yourself — all without a word. The manual calls it surprisingly insightful and vulnerable for something this simple, and suggests following it with another pair exercise.

  • Being looked at in silence is the whole exercise; people who find it hard have no verbal exit, so name closing the eyes as always available
