RAIN Meditation
A four-step mindfulness practice for meeting difficult emotion where it stands: Recognize what is happening, Allow it to be here, Investigate with gentle curiosity (in the body, not the story), and Nurture with self-compassion. Minutes long, usable in the moment or as sitting practice; one of the most portable emotional-regulation tools in the contemplative toolbox.
- Investigate means felt sense, not rumination — if the story takes over, return to Allow
- With trauma-loaded material, keep doses short, anchor in outer senses, and work with support — self-guided RAIN meets what is present, and sometimes a lot is present
