Four to six people play a scene in which one of them is left outside the group — not included in whatever the others are doing. The players have to sense who the group is excluding so that they agree on it without saying so, and the exclusion is played deliberately obviously, even exaggerated. Everyone takes a turn at being the one left out.
Hold with care
- The source opens with the condition and it is the most important line on the page: this exercise should only be done with secure groups, without internal prestige between them
- Being deliberately and visibly excluded by a group is the experience on offer, and in a group with any real exclusion in its history it will not stay fictional
- Everyone taking a turn is what makes it survivable; running it without completing the rotation leaves whoever went first carrying it alone
- This needs a debrief and someone able to hold what comes up in it, not a facilitator who only starts the exercise
