Two scenes with entirely different casts, not necessarily in the same place or period. The rule is that the second must raise the stakes of the first without anyone from the first being in it — if A loves a hesitant B, the second scene introduces A's rival. Each runs two to five minutes, long enough for the situation and the people to emerge.
